Indianapolis is a welcoming city, even when it comes to its four-legged residents and visitors. The area has several parks that encourage people to bring their dogs, along with designated dog parks where you can let your pet run and play with other pooches off-leash. Check out these dog-friendly parks in Indianapolis. Fort Harrison State Park Dog Park Fort Harrison Dog Park is a dedicated dog park within the main state park. It has three separate fenced areas, and dogs of all sizes can play in any of the enclosures. Brigade Landing is the largest play area and covers about 5 acres. It has a pond, a dog beach, and a wooded area where you and your dogs can go exploring. Platoon Run is a 3.6-acre area with large shade trees, a water station, benches, a shelter, and even a fireplace. The Herrin Hill area in the middle of the dog park is mostly open grass. Fairbanks Art and Nature Park sits on 100 acres of land next to the Museum of Art. The park features woodlands, wetlands, a 35-acre lake with shoreline to explore, and meadows where you can walk with your dog. It stays open from sunrise to sunset, and visitors are welcome to bring their dogs and walk with them as long as they remain leashed. IndyHumane Dog Park Head to IndyHumane Dog Park located right on the Humane Society's campus. The fenced-in area has an agility course your dog can explore or train on. The park also has 1.5 miles of wooded trails for hiking. To use the property, your dog must be at least six months old. You also have to bring a copy of your pet's current vaccination record to the Humane Society and proof of being spayed or neutered. Once you provide this information, you'll get a key to the dog park for access even when the shelter is closed. Paul Ruster Bark Park Dogs love the Paul Ruster Bark Park. You can get an annual pass by bringing vaccination records to the park office and completing an application. Pooch Passes are $75, and VIP Pooch Passes are $125. The VIP pass allows you gate access to all the Indy Parks Bark Parks. With your pass, you get a gate access device, and your dog gets a tag showing he or she has access to the park too. Dogs can play off-leash in either of the two fenced-in play areas that are always well-kept, mowed, and clean. The park also has a trail network if you want to take your dog for a walk and a playground to keep the kids occupied while the dog plays.
