Honda Service on Indianapolis’ East Side

Our Honda-trained technicians handle maintenance, repairs and recall work for Hondas across Central Indiana. You’ll find us at 770 North Shadeland Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46219, just north of the Washington Street cloverleaf on Indianapolis’ east side. Before we do any added work, your service advisor walks you through what we found and recommend, what we estimate it will cost and how long we expect it to take.

Book your Honda’s service online whenever it suits you, and check our service hours before you come in.

How a Service Visit Works

A service appointment with us runs in 4 steps, from check-in to pickup.

  • Check In: Your advisor confirms the work you’ve asked for, any concerns and how you’d like us to reach you.

  • Inspect or Diagnose: A technician does the maintenance or inspection you requested, or tests your Honda to track down a concern.

  • Review and Approve: Your advisor explains the technician’s findings and recommendations, the estimated cost and the expected timing.

  • Service and Follow-Up: We complete the work you authorized, quality-check it and go over it with you before or at pickup.

Each recommendation is yours to approve, decline or postpone. Once you opt in to service texts, your advisor can also text you appointment reminders, your inspection results and any approval requests.

When you book, tell us your Honda’s year and model, and the main reason for the visit. If it’s a recall visit, include your vehicle identification number (VIN). Bring your keys and anything that explains a concern, such as service records, recall notices or a photo of a warning message.

What We Work On

Our work falls into 3 groups:

Group What it covers
Routine maintenance Oil and filter changes, including synthetic oil; engine and cabin air filters; battery testing and replacement; windshield wipers; coolant service; belts, hoses and fluid checks; tune-ups
Tires and brakes Tire rotation and balancing; tire pressure checks; brake service and repair; brake pad and shoe replacement
Repairs and diagnosis Engine diagnostics; heating and air conditioning; radiator and cooling system repair; transmission service; struts, alternators and starters; headlights; general repair; Honda recall service

When we perform a multi-point inspection, it normally covers 7 areas:

  • Belts

  • Hoses

  • Tires

  • Brakes

  • Shocks

  • Transmission

  • Steering

The technician’s summary then tells you what’s starting to wear, what needs replacing and what’s in good shape, which is what our multi-point inspection is for.

If you mostly drive short trips, your battery may not fully recharge, and our battery check shows whether it needs replacing.

Our technicians are Honda-trained and use Honda’s own service information, procedures and equipment. We offer Genuine Honda Parts, made to fit and work with Honda vehicles, for many repair and maintenance jobs. Your advisor can tell you which parts we recommend, whether they’re in stock and how they’re covered. If you’d rather supply your own parts, we accept them, but work done with them isn’t covered by an Ed Martin warranty.

We also do basic maintenance, like tire rotations and oil changes, on cars that aren’t Hondas, though work specific to another brand may be referred to that brand’s dealer. We don’t have a body shop, so for collision damage, see which Ed Martin locations handle collision estimates.

Signs It’s Time to Come In

Follow the interval in your owner’s manual for routine care, and book a visit sooner if you notice any of these signs.

Brakes

Screeching, grinding or a brake indicator light means it’s time for our brake pad and shoe service, and a brake pedal that feels wrong needs a look too.

Warning lights

A check engine or ABS light is a reason to come in, and finding the cause may take inspection or testing by a technician.

Overheating

An engine that runs hot, a temperature gauge that often reads high or a sweet, syrupy smell means it’s time to have the cooling system checked and find out whether you need a coolant flush.

Tire balance

Shaking or vibration through the car or the steering wheel, usually at higher speeds, is often a sign you need tire balancing. Potholes and rough roads can throw off that balance too, and we can check it.

Tires

If a tire looks low or worn, or you notice a noise or smell from your tires, have us check them. The right pressure for your Honda is on the driver’s door-frame decal or in your owner’s manual, not the sidewall.

Wipers

Smudges, streaks, or bumps and tears you can feel along the blade’s edge mean the rubber is worn, and we can replace your wiper blades.

Arriving, Waiting and Getting Around

We’re on the Shadeland corridor in Warren Township, at 770 North Shadeland Ave, just north of the Washington Street cloverleaf. Irvington is to our west, and Cumberland is to our east. Four roads bring you in:

  • I-70

  • I-465

  • Washington Street (US 40), from Cumberland and Greenfield

  • Brookville Road, from New Palestine and Shelbyville

On our lot, follow our Service Center signs to the Service Reception drive. The Express Service lane is marked separately at the service entrance.

If you wait with us, you can settle into our client lounge, our children’s room or a room set aside for work. Refreshments are complimentary, there’s Wi-Fi, and we also offer a car wash at no charge.

These are your options while we work on your Honda:

Option Best for What to know
Waiting appointment Staying with your Honda Depends on the job and the expected time in the shop
Night key drop Drop-offs after service closes for the day Open for a short early-evening window, until our gate to the main road closes; you can’t get into our lot after that
Shuttle A ride to a nearby destination Goes to destinations within about 15 minutes of us
Honda-approved loaner Qualifying Honda warranty work Not offered for other visits
Discounted rental Anyone with a vehicle in service Through Ed Martin Nissan, another Ed Martin store

Estimates, Recalls and Payment

What you pay depends on the kind of visit. We can often price routine maintenance ahead of time, but a concern may need inspection or diagnosis first. The same symptom can come from different problems, and Honda, the carmaker, requires diagnosis to confirm the problem before a repair is recommended. There may be a diagnosis fee, and in most cases it’s waived if you go ahead with the recommended repair. Taxes, shop supplies and any added work you approve can change the final total.

Recalls can differ between two cars of the same model and year, so check yours with Honda’s MyGarage recall lookup or give us your VIN. Recall parts can be specific to your VIN, so ask our service team shortly before your appointment whether they’re in stock. Covered recall work is generally done at no charge. Other work on the same visit, such as maintenance or an unrelated repair, is separate from the recall. If any of that work would cost you, it should be reviewed with you before it’s done.

Cards, tap-to-pay and cash all work. A card can cover up to $3,000, so a bigger bill may need a second way to pay. There’s no way to pay online right now, but you can pay remotely by phone. We currently offer Sunbit, which lets you pay for service over time. Sunbit decides who qualifies and sets the terms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Appointments are recommended, and you can set up an appointment online at any time. Walk-ins for maintenance aren’t always possible, and diagnostic visits, recalls and major repairs should be booked ahead.

How long it takes depends on the work, what the technician finds and whether the parts are in stock. At check-in, your advisor can give you a time estimate and let you know if it changes.

Yes, you can ask for a waiting appointment when you book. Whether waiting makes sense depends on the job and how long it should take, and a diagnostic visit or bigger repair may mean leaving your Honda with us.

Your advisor contacts you with what the technician found, the recommended work and its estimated price, and any effect on timing. You can then approve the work, decline it or put it off.

You may pay a diagnosis fee when a technician needs time and testing to confirm the concern. If you approve the repair we recommend, the fee is waived in most cases.

Your warranty may cover it, depending on your Honda’s age and mileage, its maintenance history and what caused the failure. We may need to review your warranty information to confirm coverage.

Covered recall work is generally done without charge. Maintenance or an unrelated repair on that visit is separate from the recall. Before any work you’d pay for starts, your advisor should go over it with you. To check for open recalls, have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy and ask us about them when you book your recall visit online.

Yes. Screeching, grinding or growling from your brakes is a reason to book a visit. Pads or shoes worn all the way down may lengthen your stopping distance and damage the discs or drums, so schedule our brake pad and shoe service when you first hear the noise.

Our shuttle can take you to destinations within about 15 minutes of us. Honda-approved loaners are limited to qualifying Honda warranty work, and discounted rentals come through Ed Martin Nissan, another Ed Martin store. Ask about availability and rental pickup when you book.

You can use our night key drop, which is open for a short window in the early evening, after service closes for the day and before our gate to the main road closes. Once our gate closes, you can’t get into our lot, so plan to arrive before then. Our service hours show when service closes for the day.
