Whether you’re a kid or a kid at heart, visitors of all ages love the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. When planning your visit, there are a few things to keep in mind to guarantee the best trip. Read on to discover the six tips and tricks that we recommend.
6 Tips to Plan Your Trip to The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis
1. Get Your Tickets Ahead of Time
We encourage all visitors to take advantage of the museum’s Plan-Ahead Pricing, which allows you to save 25% when you buy tickets at least two weeks in advance. Admission from 4 to 8 pm on the first Thursday of each month is only five dollars, and larger groups can also receive reduced admission. Your general admission ticket includes free parking and access to all of the museum’s exhibits, exhibit programs, and special performances.
2. Stay Safe
The museum is dedicated to keeping visitors safe during the pandemic, and there are a variety of programs to help you stay healthy while having fun. Less than 50% capacity is filled at a time, masks are required for all visitors over two years old, exhibits are cleaned daily, social distancing is required, and there are over 100 hand sanitizer stations throughout the museum. If you’re feeling sick, you can easily exchange your ticket for another day free of cost.
3. Explore Indoor Exhibits
Feed sea turtles, learn phrases in another language, and explore the extensive Greek culture through the Take Me There: Greece exhibit; afterward, you can delve into American pop culture with the American POP exhibit that showcases music, fashion, TV shows, and more. Discover the stories of kids who made a difference with the Power of Children, dig for dinosaur bones in the Dinosphere, and take an out of this world trip to the ISS with Beyond Spaceship Earth.
4. Have Fun Outside
Outdoor exhibits are open from March to November when the weather permits it, and are the perfect way for children to burn off excess energy. Exhibits include a focus on sports such as baseball, basketball, football, golf, hockey, car racing, soccer, tennis, a fitness track, and an Avenue of Champions that features twelve historic sports legends. Climb up a 25-foot tree to view the sports center from the top of the world, before riding back down on a slide!
5. Attend Events
Aside from the day-to-day fun at the museum, there are also special interactive exhibits sprinkled throughout the calendar for even more learning and enjoyment. Upcoming events include Black History Month Celebration where visitors can learn about African American achievements and heritage, Engineers Day where you can connect with local engineers, and the Earth Day Celebration where community organizations showcase their efforts to protect the planet.
6. Become a Member
To maximize your savings, learning, and experience at the museum, we recommend that repeat visitors look into becoming members. Members receive unlimited free admission, free carousel rides, reduced prices on programs and special events, discounts in the museum store, and exclusive members-only hours. The Basic Membership package covers two adults and either unlimited children or grandchildren, and you can upgrade to include two extra guests. Any time spent running around Indianapolis wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the largest children’s museum in the world, and we’re looking forward to seeing you there soon.
